Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. today (Thursday) in Potosi for Mr. Healy Boyer, prominent Potosi buisnessman, who died suddenly at his home in Potosi Monday evening. Mr. Boyer had been under a doctor’s care for some time.

The Requiem High Mass will be at 9 a.m. at St. James Church in Potosi with Father Joseph Schejbal the celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Charles Healy Boyer, member of a pioneer Washington County family, had been active in Potosi business and civic affairs for more than 50 years. He was born January 21, 1890, near Potosi, the son of John B. and Lucy LeClere Boyer. After education in Potosi schools, he attended a St. Louis business college and was graduated from the St. Louis College of Embalming.

His father, who was originally a storekeeper at Aptus, moved to Potosi during the 1890’s and entered the blacksmith business. In 1900 he founded the J.B. Boyer and Son firm with which Mr. Boyer was associated throughout his life. The firm, originally a hardware and undertaking concern and later a hardware and lumber business, has continued under its original name to the present day.

On April 17, 1912, Mr. Boyer was married to Marie L. Casey, and the Boyers were parents of two sons- William, who survives and Robert, who died in 1937.

Mr. Boyer was a prominent member of the Potosi City Council during the 1920’s and 1930’s and was influential in securing the city water works and in locating the show factory in Potosi.

He was a lifetime member of the St. James Church, and was a member of the church’s Holy Name Society. He was also a charter member of the Potosi Lions Club.

He retired from his business firm in 1946, and J. B. Boyer and Son has been managed since that time by his son, William. Survivors include his wife; his son, William; four grandchildren, Richard, Mary Elizabeth, Jean and Joan Boyer; and four sisters, Mrs. Frank Devoisin, of California, Mrs. Ray Ferree, of Glendale, Mo., Mrs. Wallace Edgar of Clayton, and Mrs, Jon Marquis, St. Louis. One sister, Mrs. Maurice Braun, preceded him in death.
