Spring Officially Begins Saturday, March 20th, 2021

Saturday, March 20th is the Vernal Equinox date for 2021, the time when the sun crosses the equator, making night and day of equal length - The first day of Spring. The equinox will arrive at 5:37 A.M. Eastern Daylight Saving Time - The Farmer’s Almanac says ‘our atmosphere bends the Sun upward at both sunrise and sunset causing day to be at least eleven minutes longer than night on the first day of Spring for most of the U.S. (Fall starts with the Autumnal Equinox- about September 22nd when the sun rises precisely due east and sets precisely due west). (Equinox means “equal night”).
Some calendars call for the 19th others the 20th. Astronomers set the official start of Spring overnight prior to the first day. (Spring officially starts at 5:37 A.M. Eastern Daylight Saving Time on March 20th - according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.
Everyone seems to be glad Spring is almost here and are hoping Jack Frost has been scared away for several months to come - It is doubtful however. The Winter has been very wet and varied with a number of days lost to snow and ice cover and several days in the measurable rains.
We have been visited by ice and snow storms again over the past several weeks. Trees and shrubs are said to be budding heavily and grasses are greening and some flowers (Jonquils) have already bloomed. Ah, yes, it is again our favorite time of year!!!
