July 09, 2025

Lawrence "Larry" Saunders, a beloved father, husband, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on September 5, 1945 in Cadet. Larry was known for his warm and friendly demeanor, truly embodying the phrase "never met a stranger." He had a deep love for being around people and dedicated much of his life to helping others.
Larry's interests were as diverse as his friendships. He had a passion for music and was often seen playing his guitar, a reflection of his joyful spirit. He found great comfort in his faith and attended church regularly, where he cultivated meaningful relationships. Larry cherished time spent with family, especially his grandchildren, and delighted in outdoor activities such as fishing, swimming in creeks and rivers, and simply enjoying nature. Larry was particularly fond of feeding cats, which underscored his nurturing personality. Larry was united in marriage to Vicki (Nabors) Saunders on April 6, 1990, and filled their lives with joy and laughter, never leaving each other's side.
He is survived by his two daughters, Marilyn Cook and Jan Wilson of Mineral Point, and Lisa Gamble and Jamie Thebeau of Cadet; his stepdaughters, Tami Robinett of Irondale, and Melinda Granger of Potosi; and his stepson, William Robinett of St. Peters. Larry also leaves behind a sister, Cecilia Slatton of Potosi, and a host of grandchildren, including Ian Wilson, Sean Wilson and wife Nikki, Elijah Wilson and fiancée Miran Courtney, Jason Fehr, and Joshua Trokey. Additionally, he had several step-grandchildren, Kristin, Kelsie, Erica, Hannah, and Oliver, along with great-grandchildren Nevaeh Trokey, Kolder Hodges, Aleyah Courtney, Carter Wilson, and David Wilson, all of whom brought him immense joy.
Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vicki Saunders, as well as his parents, Mary Helen (Boyer) Saunders and Ralph Saunders. He was also reunited in spirit with his brothers, Carl, Paul, Marvin, and George Saunders; his sisters, Audrey McCoy, Mary Alic Beinick, LaVern Miller, Joyce Goodson, and Veronica Hanson; and his grandson, Charles Hodges.
Larry will be remembered not just for his vibrant personality, but for the love he shared and the lives he touched throughout his journey. He remains a cherished memory in the hearts of those who knew him.
