Evelyn Momot

Evelyn Rebecca (Portell) Momot was born on July 10, 1961 in Potosi and passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. She was the fifth of seven children of the late Leon David and Evelyn Berniece (Warren) Portell. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved siblings, Ruth Weber and Leon Portell. She is survived by her husband Terry Momot of Potosi, her daughters Mallory Richards of St. Louis and Jennifer Fisher of Potosi, and her grandchildren Fallon and Sutton Fisher of Potosi. Other surviving family members include her sister Christine Tourville and family of Cape Girardeau and Potosi; John Portell and family of Potosi and Irondale; Crystal Shaddon and family of Gowanda, New York; Nancy Barton and family of Washington; Michelle Jones and family of Park Hills; and Maggie and Annette Portell and family of Potosi; brothers-in-law, Randy Momot, Ricky Momot, Ronnie Momot, Gary Momot, Bobby and wife Sandy Momot, Bruce Momot and Jennifer. 
Evelyn was raised in and around Old Mines with her brothers and sisters. She was well known for her smart mouth, sense of humor, and love of reading. She attended school at Kingston “Cruise” Schools until high school, when she attended Potosi High School. Evelyn attended university at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Evelyn was married in 1981, and from that marriage, two daughters were born; Mallory was born in 1985, and Jennifer was born in 1988. While raising her girls, she spent time with them reading, listening to records, and gardening at their home near her family on Grassy Hollow Road outside Potosi.
Evelyn married Terry Momot on July 20, 1996 at Grassy Hollow Baptist Church. They were married for nearly 30 years at the time of her passing. Evelyn and Terry enjoyed spending time together going out to eat, visiting with friends, and playing with their grandchildren. Evelyn spent nearly 30 years teaching elementary school, mostly at Potosi Elementary, where she loved her students and coworkers deeply. She enjoyed making people laugh, and she loved playing pranks on her friends and family. In retirement, she tutored local students, and she was proud of her work with them to grow their literacy skills. 
Evelyn loved her grandchildren, and she was a proud MaMaw of Fallon and Sutton. She loved to spend time with them playing games, drawing pictures, working on letters and numbers, and playing superheroes. They were the light of her life. Evelyn was a fierce supporter of underdogs, a selfless friend, and a wonderful mother and wife. She loved listening to music, swimming, and spending time with her daughters.
Visitation for Evelyn was held Wednesday, April 16th from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. at Moore Funeral Home in Potosi. Funeral services were held the same day and the same location at 1 P.M. with Bro. Mike Jarvis officiating. 
Burial and final prayers took place at Grassy Hollow Cemetery in Potosi. Serving as pallbearers were Josh Portell, Johnny Portell, Jack Toombs, Ryan Griggs, Bruce Momot, Bobby Momot, honorary pallbearers were John Portell Sr. and Roger Griggs.     
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Potosi Elementary Discretionary Social Workers Fund. Donation for the fund may be made directly to the family via Venmo @Jennifer-Fisher-18. Please put "Potosi School Fund" in memo line.
Services were entrusted to the care of Moore Funeral Homes in Potosi.
