April 09, 2025

Sanford Joseph Spier, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on April 29, 1952, in Ironton, Sanford's warm and welcoming nature endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His love for visiting with people and his passion for helping others were hallmarks of his character. On June 17, 1973 Sanford was united in marriage to Brenda (Kelly) Spier and they shared over 50 years and many wonderful memories together.
Sanford led a full and vibrant life. He was actively involved in farming and took great pride in owning and operating the Blue Haven Cafe in Irondale, where he shared not just meals, but camaraderie and joy with his patrons. His community remembers him not just for his contributions, but also for the kindness he showed day in and day out.
He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Spier, and their two children, daughter Shannon Spier and son Billy Spier, both of whom reside in Irondale. He cherished his role as a brother to Diane Horton of Irondale, and Jim Spier of Kokomo, Indiana. Sanford was also a proud grandfather to Shane Spier, Austin Spier, and Alex Spier, and would often light up at the mention of his four great-grandchildren. He leaves behind many other relatives and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
Sanford was preceded in death by his parents, Helen (Beck) Spier and Earl Spier, as well as an infant daughter whose memory remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Sanford will be remembered not only for the impact he made in his community but also for the love he brought into the lives of those around him. His legacy of warmth, generosity, and personal connection will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
