Donald Vean Eye II
November 20, 2024
Donald Vean Eye II, lovingly known as Donnie, was born on September 21, 1962, in St. Francois County. He was the cherished son of Donald and Violet (Boyer) Eye, and grew up in Shirley, Missouri, where he attended Potosi School. Donnie's journey through life came to an unexpected end on Monday, November 11, 2024, leaving a huge void in the hearts of all who knew him.
Donnie was not just a man of deep roots and community spirit; he was a devoted family man. He shared a beautiful marriage with the love of his life, Bonnie Moses, whom he wed on June 16, 1983, at Lost Creek Baptist Church. They enjoyed an incredible 41 years together, filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. Their bond was truly inspirational and a testament to enduring love, even as Bonnie passed away just months before him on February 25, 2024.
Donnie's pride and joy extended to his son, Don Michael Eye, and daughter-in-law, Samantha, who blessed him with the light of his life—his three beloved grandchildren: Ariana, Zayden, and Willow Eye. Each of them brought unmatched joy and laughter into his world. He cherished every moment spent with them.
As a brother, Donnie was deeply loved. He is survived by his three sisters: Charlotte Fish, Vanessa Draffen (husband, John), and Deborah Akins (husband, Randall). The family bonds extended through his nieces and nephews—Tracy and Jeff Boren, Michelle and Scott Courtois, Toria Moyers, Cody LaChance, J.W. Moses, and Ashley Moses—who all carry fond memories of him in their hearts. He also leaves behind his father-in-law, Bill Moses, along with many loving in-laws: Susie LaChance and Linzy Agnew, Ronnie Moses, and Debbie Moses. His fiancé, Rose Pratt, found a loyal partner in Donnie and will forever cherish their time together.
In addition to Donnie's parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Eye; mother-in-law, Viola Moses; brother-in-law, Mike Fish; and special aunt Carol Wisehart aka "Aunt Color."
Donnie's love for the outdoors was a distinct part of his personality. He looked forward to family hunting trips, creating lasting memories. His pride in his cabin, affectionately named "Gravediggers Den," showcased his warmth and desire for togetherness among family.
Donnie was a second generation owner and operator of Eye Grave Digging Service. His father, Donald first started the grave digging business in the 1960's. Donnie continued this this service up until 2024. In the community, Donnie shone as a beacon of generosity. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, assisting local cemeteries in marking graves and offering his support to those in need. It was not uncommon to find him gathering at Andrew's Family Restaurant, formerly known as Family Steak House, sharing stories and laughter with his buddies.
Donnie was proud to have recently been elected as the Washington County 2nd District Commissioner, he took great pride in serving his community.
His great personality and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Donnie leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and commitment to family that will continue to resonate for generations. As we gather to remember him, we carry forward all the cherished memories of a man who truly lived life to the fullest—Donnie Eye, a steadfast friend, loving father, devoted husband, and a compassionate soul.
