October 23, 2024

It has been reported that Washington County Deputies were called to a brush fire at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024 South of Potosi.
The deputies found a Jeep Cherokee that had been set on fire and there was a person in the vehicle. The remains of the person in the Cherokee had not been identified as of Wednesday morning, but the vehicle was reported to be owned by Dale Ryerson of Sullivan, a 63 year old man who was reported as a missing person on Tuesday to the Missouri Highway Patrol and Sullivan Police Department.
Sullivan Police released a report on Tuesday evening that said they had been dispatched to the 300 block of Jones Street in Sullivan. The call was to check the 'well being' of a 63 year old male. It was reported that someone heard a disturbance and saw someone drag the 63 year old man out to his Cherokee (2004) and put the man in the passenger seat and then drove off. The police entered the residence and found what appeared to be the scene of a struggle and potential assault.
Sullivan Police put out a 'On The Look Out' message to agencies in the area and missing/endangered person advisory. At that time, Cody Lee Hunt, 34 years old, was considered a person of interest in their investigation. It was reported that Hunt had an extensive criminal history and was recently released from prison.
On Wednesday morning, Oct. 23rd, Washington County Sheriff's Deputies took Cody Lee Hunt, 34, in to custody at a residence in Washington County. It was reported that Hunt was transported to the Washington County Jail and released to the custody of the Sullivan Police Department.
