Trojan Football Wins Big Friday On The Road In Salem, 46-19

The Varsity Trojan Football Team traveled to Salem on Friday, Sept. 6th to take on the Salem Tigers. The Trojans were coming off a win against St. Clair and the Tigers were hoping to bounce back after a loss to St. James.
It was a nice night for football and the Trojans were ready to play. Potosi scored a touchdown in the first quarter, three touchdowns in the second quarter, two touchdowns in the third and a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
The first score was a 2 yard touchdown run by #21 Noah Walton with an extra point added by #15 Wyatt Cannon in the first quarter. #21 Noah Walton again rambled 61 yards for the next Trojan score and #15 Cannon added the extra point, 14-0. Potosi Quarterback #4 David Miller found #7 Jude Litton for a 34 yard touchdown pass play. The extra point was blocked and it was 20-0, Potosi. #25 Clayton Richards was the next runner to put Potosi on the scoreboard with a 29 yard run. Extra point was no good, 26-0, Trojans. The Salem Tigers completed a long pass play and scored with three seconds left in the half, 26-6. Noah Walton, #21, again broke a 49 yard run on the first play of the second half for a Trojan touchdown, extra point good by #15 Cannon, 33-6, Potosi had the big lead. #4 David Miller again went to the air and found #2 Thomas Lambing for a 36 yard touchdown pass play. Extra point was good by #15 Cannon and it was Potosi 40 and Salem 6. The Tigers stayed in the game with two scores in the fourth quarter. The final score was late in the game with #3 Tyson Fowler showing some good moves and determination with a good run over the goal line from 9 yards out, 46-13. Salem scored as the clock ran down and it was Potosi 46 and and Salem 19 for the final.
Potosi’s defense did a good job throughout the night, controlling the line of scrimmage with Salem not getting much offense through the four quarters. The top tacklers for Potosi were #11 Karsen Boyer and #26 Cole Fowler with 8 a piece and #7 Jude Litton and #20 Blayne Maxwell with 6 each. Several defenders were on the tally sheet with tackles, batted balls and good plays.
The Trojans had a balanced offense with several contributors and a good passing game by #4 David Miller to a variety of receivers.
Both teams did have a few turnovers, and Potosi was able to capitalize on the Salem mistakes.
The Trojans are 2-0 and will host the Valle of Sainte Genevieve Dragons this Friday, Sept. 13th, 2024 at Trojan Field at 7 p.m.
