ROCK CLIMBING SITE OFFICIALLY OPENED

February 28, 2024

State Park Officials and a variety of volunteers and supporters gathered on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, Feb. 24th, 2024, to open the new rock climbing area that is in Washington State Park just off of Dugout Road. The Park held a ribbon cut- ting to officially open and dedicate the site. There is a new parking area off Dug Out Road with a trail head and access to the area. Washington State Park will monitor the area and climbers are required to be registered to use the dedicated area. The project has been discussed for many years and credit was given to recently retired Park Superintendent Sha- ron Hultberg for diligent work. Washington State Park offers over 2100 acres of forest for the public to enjoy. The new rock climbing area is an added fea- ture that will offer experienced climbers a challenge as well as a beautiful site to enjoy. Hultberg, who was on hand for the opening, was also recognized for her service and retirement. David Kelly, Direc- tor of Missouri State Parks, spoke and expressed his thanks to so many involved that made the long process a success for the public and climbers in Mis- souri.
