FOR TOURS THIS SATURDAY
– The County Commission and the Sheriff have planned an open house for tours of the old building this Saturday, April 15th from 8 a.m. to 12 noon for the public. There will be tours through the Sheriff’s Office building that was the ‘old jail’ that many remember before the addition on that added current cells & housing for inmates.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has been cleaned out and items removed prior to the ‘Open House’ and tours that are being offered to the public this Saturday, April 15th.
The Washington County Commission has spent approximately two years on plans to replace the County’s Sheriff’s Department building at 116 West High Street. The old building stands at the corner of West High Street and South Mine Street in Potosi. The building is set to be razed to make way for new construction beginning this year.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Department and County Commissioners are hosting an Open House and Tour of the Sheriff’s Administration Building (‘the old jail’) prior to it being closed to be razed.
The public is invited to tour the old building and take pictures, videos, etc. The final ‘walk through’ is being offered for those that remember the building and those that might just be curious.
Sheriff Zach Jacobsen pointed out at the County Commission’s regular meeting on Monday, April 10th that most people need to realize that the remnants of the ‘old jail’ are all gone and that extensive remodeling took out most of the bars and doors that made it ‘the old jail’.
The tour is scheduled for Saturday, April 15th from 8 A.M. to 12 Noon with light refreshments available.
Limited number group tours will be guided through the building with County Commissioners, the Sheriff and staff on hand to discuss the project and plans for the site.
The old jail building is located at 116 W. High Street in ‘Downtown Potosi’.
