Oneida Marie Haguewood
Oneida Marie Haguewood was born on June 21, 1932, a daughter to the late Bonnie Mae Jarvis and Leonard Eugen Howell. Oneida passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 26th, 2023 at Garden View Care Center in O’Fallon at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 5 days.
In 1948 at the age of 16 Oneida was united in marriage to John William “Bud” Haguewood at Potosi United Methodist Church by Reverend Arthur Gray. At this time, Bud was 18 years of age. They shared nearly 62 years of marriage together. They received their first child in 1952, a daughter, Christine Marie and in 1956, a son, John Douglas.
Oneida’s first employment was as a switchboard operator with the Potosi Telephone Company. Bud’s was with Clyde Loomis Construction Company. They worked these jobs for several years until venturing into other occupations. In 1967, Oneida attended college to become licensed as an LPN and was employed by Washington County Memorial Hospital, while Bud continued in construction. Oneida continued in the medical field and was employed as an office nurse for a local doctor and six years later was employed by Potosi R-3 School District as school nurse in order to be home with her two children during the summer. Bud went to work for McCarthy Brothers and was away much of the time during those years. After they both had semi-retired, Oneida and Bud purchased and operated Sinclair Florist until they sold it in 1983 when they fully retired. For the next ten years, they enjoyed life, motorcycling, camping, fishing, and going to Texas for the winters until Bud’s health deteriorated.
Oneida was preceded in death by her husband, John William “Bud” Haguewood on June 20, 2008; mother, Bonnie (Jarvis) Dinsmoore; father, Leonard Eugene Howell; beloved step father, Leo Dinsmoore; brother, Ronald Eugen Howell; and special aunt, Dorothy Politte.
