Trojan Boys Varsity Third – Central Christmas Tournament Hosted Sixteen Area Teams

The 67th Annual Bob Sechrest Jr. Boys Varsity Christmas Basketball Tournament was held Monday, December 26th thru Friday, December 30th at the T.J. Foulon Field House. Sixteen Teams competed for Championship Honors.

The Varsity Trojans beat Fredericktown in the opening round of the Tournament 68-52 on Tuesday, Dec. 27th. Ty Mills and Carter Whitley led the way for the Trojans with 21 points each.

Next they faced second seed South Iron in the Quarterfinals, coming away with a 73-69 victory. The Stat leaders from the game were Gabe Brawley-22 points, Carter Whitley-16 points and Ty Mills-15 points.

In the Semifinals, the Trojans fell to Hillsboro 64-31. Carter Whitley led the team with 17 points and Ty Mills chipped in 8 points.

The Trojans beat Steelville 63-55 in the Third Place game and that win improves the Trojans record to 10-2 on the season. The stat leaders were Gabe Brawley-25 points, Carter Whitley-24 points and Ty Mills-8 points.

Overall Tournament Details

Four games were played Monday, December 26th as follows:

First seeded Central played sixteenth choice Perryville at 4 p.m. Central won 85-45. Next up was eighth ranked Herculaneum and ninth placed North County at 5:30 p.m. North County defeated Herculaneum 77-50. Playing at 7 p.m. was fourth choice Steelville matched against thirteen picked Jefferson. Steelville won big 72-58. And rounding out opening play at 8:30 p.m. Monday was fifth seeded Ste. Gen. and twelfth choice Farmington. Ste. Gen. edged out Farmington 66-62.

Opening round play continued Tuesday, December 27th at 4 p.m. when second ranked South Iron defeated fifteenth picked DeSoto soundly 86-56. Matched at 5:30 p.m. were seventh choice Potosi and tenth seeded Fredericktown. Potosi won 68-52. Festus, third seed played fourteenth choice Crystal City at 7 p.m. winning easily 69-38 and closing out opening play at 8:30 p.m. was a contest between sixth ranked Hillsboro and eleventh picked Arcadia Valley. Hillsboro prevailed 84-60.

Tuesday, December 27th play moved to the Loser’s Bracket at 1 p.m. Perryville fell to Herculaneum 62-58 and 2:30 p.m. Farmington set back Jefferson 62-54. Wed., Dec. 28th at 10 a.m. Fredericktown outdid DeSoto 68-45 and 11:30 a.m. Arcadia Valley fell to Crystal City 84-76. Consolation Bracket play continued Thursday, Dec. 29th with Semi-Finals at 12 Noon seeing Farmington edge out Herculaneum 59-58 and 1:30 p.m. Fredericktown beat Crystal City 54-36. Finals were at 12 Noon Friday, December 30th where Farmington narrowly defeated Fredericktown 46-45.

Wednesday, December 28th was Quarter Finals at 4 p.m. Central beat North County 79-38; 5:30 p.m. Ste. Gen fell to Steelville 69-55; at 7 p.m. Potosi beat South Iron 73-69 and at 8:30 p.m. Hillsboro took down Festus 61-58. Semi-Finals were at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 29th. at 6 p.m. Central topped Steelville 66-41 and at 7:30 p.m. Hillsboro defeated Potosi 64-31.

Fifth Place Bracket play was scheduled for 3 and 4:30 p.m. Thursday, December 29th at 3 p.m. Ste. Gen fell to North County 71-58 and at 4:30 p.m. South Iron edged out Festus 52-51. Fifth Place was decided at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30th as South Iron beat North County 47-46.

Also on Friday was the Third Place game at 4:30 p.m. won by Potosi over Steelville 63-55.

The Championship Final at 7:30 p.m. saw first picked Central beat sixth choice Hillsboro 72-61.
