City of Potosi Places Use Tax On November’s General Election

November 04, 2022

The City of Potosi has put a ‘Use Tax’ question on the ballot for the City of Potosi residents to be voted on during the General Election date, Tuesday, Nov. 8th, 2022.

The question on the ballot reads: “Shall the City of Potosi impose a local use tax at the same rate as the total local sales tax rate, provided that if the local sales tax rate is reduced or raised by voter approval, the local use tax rate shall also be reduced or raised by the same action?”

Qualified voters will get to express their opinion on the question at the Tuesday, Nov. 8th Election for the City of Potosi.

Voters in Potosi cast their ballots at either the Potosi Elks Lodge Hall or the Washington County Library.

Absentee voting is going on now at the Washington County Courthouse in the County Clerk’s Office.

The ordiance by the City was passed in June of this year for the voters to decide the question on the General Election date.

A simple explanation of Use Tax is a local tax similar to a sales tax. Use tax is applied to taxable purchases that were not taxed at the local sales tax rate (as example, out of state purchases, etc.).

Remember to vote Tues., Nov. 8th.
