Melvin “Mel” Richard Doney

Melvin “Mel” Richard Doney of Hillsboro passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the age of 100 years. He was born on November 28, 1919 at Piedmont to the late Lewis and Mamie (Bunyard) Doney. In addition to his parents, Mel is preceded in death by his wife Zita (Pashia) Doney, sons Richard and Ronald Doney, brothers Wayne, Earl, Doyle and Robert Doney and sister Ruth Doney.

Mel was retired from Von Hoffman Printing in Kirkwood, where he was employed many years as a pressman in the printing shop. Mel was very athletic and enjoyed playing slow pitch softball, bowling, playing horseshoes, playing golf and even participated in ballroom dancing up into his 80’s. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and barbequing.

Mel is survived by daughter Barbara J Null of Hillsboro, sons Robert (& Sherry) Doney of California and Stephen (& Pamela) Doney of Festus, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 5–8 p.m. on Sunday, October 25th at the Mahn Funeral Home in DeSoto. A Funeral Mass was celebrated by Father Tony Datillo on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Joachim Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Joachim Parish Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent in for Masses.
