WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Friday, June 4th, Congressman Jason Smith stopped by the Painted Wren Art Gallery to take part in celebrating Missouri’s 200th Birthday by painting the large mural that will hang in Missouri’s State Capitol Building.

The Governor and First Lady, Lt. Governor and Second Lady, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt, many Missouri legislators and their staff, and thousands of Missourians and visitors to Missouri have painted on this mural. The number of painters at the moment is 16,089, which has unofficially broken a Guinness World Record for the most people to paint a painting.

“Missouri is a state that values family, hard work, and community. That’s why some of the greatest Americans this world has ever known came from Missouri,” said Rep. Jason Smith. “As we celebrate our 200th year as a state, I’m proud of the Missourians who have left their mark on our state and am looking forward to the remarkable accomplishments from the next generation of trailblazers from the ‘Show-Me’ State.”

The mural is made up of 15 panels with 18 of Missouri’s state symbols plus the state capitol and the St. Louis Gateway Arch. This mural is a gift from the people of Missouri to the State of Missouri in celebration of its 200th Birthday.

When the mural is completed, they will deliver the 15 panels to the State Capitol where they will be on display in the Capitol Rotunda on the Bicentennial Day, August 10, 2021. It will then hang in the Truman Building in Jefferson City where it can be viewed by the public. The mural will measure an impressive 12 feet high and 30 feet wide.
