William "Bill" Lee Mabe of Steelville was born on Saturday, September 14, 1957 in Cuba, to Richard L. "Step" Mabe, Sr. and Marie Jane Mabe (nee Lancaster).  He passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan on Friday, June 24, 2022 at the age of 64 years, 9 months and 10 days.

Bill was a lifelong resident of Steelville and graduated from Steelville High School in 1976. He was of the Catholic faith and later enjoyed listening to Jerry Beers on Wednesdays at Steelville Senior Living. Bill was a master carpenter and worked for Bob Berenzen Construction in St. Louis and later owned his own business.

Bill married Cheryl “Sherry” Elaine Hunt on September 14, 2012 in Steelville, MO.  He enjoyed working and tinkering around his house, burning brush and supervising having rocks picked up.  He liked to BBQ, ride his four wheeler and especially loved to go hunting, fishing and gigging.  Most of all, Bill was a selfless man who loved his family and spending time with them.  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

 
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard “Step” and Marie Mabe; parents-in-law Gilbert (Jean) Hunt and Agnes Hunt; brothers Daniel “Danny” Mabe, Richard “Richie” Mabe and Thomas “Tom” Mabe; sister Julie Duncan Young; brother-in-law Ronnie Dumas.

Bill is survived by his wife Sherry Mabe (nee Hunt) of Steelville; children Chris (Amy) Mabe of Potosi, Brittany (Colby) Benson of Blackwell and Tiffany (Adam) Lake of Potosi; siblings Jeanette (Gene) Payne of Bourbon, Joseph (Edith) Mabe, John (Linda) Mabe, Jim Mabe, David (Melanie) Mabe and Mary (Danny) Turnbough all of Steelville; brothers-in-law Stephen “Jack” (Susan) Dumas of O’Fallon, Danny (Mary) Dumas of Eminence, Larry (Linda) Dumas of Glen St. Mary, FL and Troy Young of Texas; sister-in-law Lynn Mabe of Steelville; grandchildren Dustin (Haylen), Eli (companion Haley), Gunner, Brooklen, Jadelen, Brody, Cooper, Cash, Ashton, Lane and Nevaeh; dear great grandfather of Ruegar, Braylen, Paislee and Waylon; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday, June 28th at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville.  Funeral service was at 1 P.M. on Wednesday, June 29th at Hutson Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Burial was at Steelville Cemetery.
