Scouts Set Flag Retirement & Scouting For Food Dates

October 28, 2020

Denny Allen, area Scout Master in Washington County, has announced plans for a number of activities in the upcoming weeks for local scouts.

The Scouts have been working on the existing playground equipment at the Potosi City Park over the past several weeks. The group has been sanding and painting the equipment at the Park as a community service project.

On Saturday, Nov. 7th at 3 p.m. a Flag Retirement Ceremony will be held at the Towne Square, across from the Washington County Courthouse.

The Scouts will retire United States flags that have been damaged. The ceremony is an impressive one, that tells the history of the flag and the importance of the colors that represent the United States of America.

For those in the community that have flags that need to be retired, the V.F.W. Post on Veterans Drive has a flag drop box, or flags may be dropped off at ‘The Independent-Journal’ office at 119 East High Street in Potosi.

The next project for the Scouts is the annual “Scouting for Food” drive that has the youngsters take bags out in the area on Saturday, Nov. 14th and leave them at resident’s doors to be picked up, filled with non-perishable items, on Saturday, Nov. 21st, 2020. The annual drive nets a large number of canned goods and items that are divided between the St. James Food Pantry and the Life Church Food Pantry. This is another community service project that helps support area families during the Winter months.

For those interested in Scouting, check with your school district, find information online or find out who is a Scout. The projects and activities are rewarding and it is a service to the community.
