Youth Hunt Weekend Is Set 31-1 For Firearms Deer

October 28, 2020

Missouri’s Youth Weekend for Firearms Deer Season is this Sat., Oct. 31st and Sunday, Nov. 1st, 2020.

Youth hunters from 6 to 15 years old are eligible to hunt during the special weekend.

Shooting hours for the young hunters are one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.

The weekend may feel a little different for hunters ‘hitting the woods’ as the time changes on Sunday, Nov. 1st. Time ‘falls back’ and everyone gains an hour or loses an hour, depending on your point of view.

A youth hunter can take one deer of either sex during the early youth portion. If a hunter has more than one permit, additional permits must be used in another portion.

Resident or non-resident youth from 6 - 15 may obtain a permit for $8.50. Hunters are reminded that only one antlered deer may be taken during firearms season, all portions combined.

Hunters may take only two antlered deer during archery and firearms seasons combined.

Washington County allows two firearms antlerless deer permits during the firearms deer season (all portions combined).

The antler point restriction does not apply during the youth portions.

The late youth portion is the Friday, Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 27th, 28th & 29th, 2020.

During the youth portions of firearms deer season, adults who accompany youth hunters do not need a deer hunting permit. The adult must be 18 or older and hunter-education certified or born before Jaunary 1, 1967.

Hunter orange should be worn while in the woods. You must wear hunter orange if you are hunting any species of game during firearms deer season; hunting on an area that is having a managed firearms deer hunt; are serving as a mentor to another hunter during firearms deer season or while in an area having a managed firearms deer hunt. A hunter orange hat and hunter orange shirt, vest or coat. The color must be visible from all sides and camouflage orange does not satisfy the requirement.
