Dies At Home Here

Mrs. Walter J. Simmons was born Julia Elizabeth Duclous, Apr. 8, 1885, in the Pleasant Hill neighborhood of this county. She departed this life March 15, 1950 at her home in Potosi. Being of French and English parentage, her mother was Mary Jane (George) Duclous, her father Sterling Duclous. Her father passed away Oct. 19, 1894, and her mother died Aug. 28, 1934.

Mrs. Simmons was from a family of six girls. The oldest preceded her in death several years ago. The remaining four still living are Mrs. Minerva Gibbons of Potosi, Mrs. Lillie Jarvis of DeSoto, Mrs. Margaret Parks of Festus and Mrs. Florence Whitehead of Potosi.

She was married to Walter J. Simmons April 23, 1905, and to this union were born two daughters and four sons: Mary Catherine Banning of Potosi, Gladys Sparks of Tempe, Arizona, Russell, Oscar, Clyde and Eddie. Clyde died July 12, 1936, at the age of 20 years and Oscar, Mar. 25, 1948, at the age of 39 years.

Mrs. Simmons was a member of the Pleasant Hill Christian Church, Mary Blaine Circle. Order of the Eastern Star of which she was a Past Matron, Cedar Lane Club and Civic League.
